Anyone who has spoken to me about this trip in the last couple of weeks would probably have gotten the impression that we are not altogether prepared. This would be a partly accuarate assumption.
The lovely people at Air Asia have been kind enough to sponsor the trip which has meant free flights in return for producing a short film about the trip for them. However the thing with free flights it would seem, is that you have to sweat a little for them….we only received confirmation at 9pm the evening before our 8.30 first leg flight to Kuala Lumpur.
Our fundraising efforts were put into action fairly late in the game, nonetheless we have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity! If you are reading this and donated, then THANK YOU! We appreciate it more than you can imagine, as do all the people your donations will help provide clean drinking water to throughout India. Our target of AUD $1800 was quickly surpassed and the donations were still rolling in last time I checked the page. If you’ve not yet donated but would like to, head on over to our donation page and do what you can. All the proceeds are going to Frank Water Projects, a sustainable clean drinking water initiative and all round very worthy cause.
Our first stop is KL, where we are spending 20 hours before flying on to Kolkata. From there we jump on an overnight train north to Sikkim, which we just found out a couple of days ago we need a permit to enter. This needs to be sorted in Kolkata and apparently can take a day to process. We are already working to a pretty tight timeframe to make it to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim in time for the start of the race on the 12th, so these permits could prove to make things a bit more interesting.
So yeah perhaps we aren’t altogether prepared, but we’re on our way and surely bluffing your way through these things is half the fun!
